Second time I’ve used Ben and he was excellent again. I had a leaky hot-water connection to my washer and water was spraying everywhere (a DIY attempt made it worse). Ben immediately understood what was happening, gave me a quote on the spot, and the final price matched the quote exactly. He arrived right at 7:00am and fixed the issue quickly and professionally. He’s been a plumber for 15+ years and owns the company, so it’s great working directly with the owner/master plumber. Reasonable pricing, great communication, and quality work. Highly recommend. 1st review Ben was fantastic. He was quick to respond, up front about his pricing and on-time. I was very impressed by his knowledge and his willingness to do a better than good job. Would I hire him again? Absolutely. A good guy, a good job, and good pricing. Just what you’re looking for in a plumber. And he cleaned up after himself!

Our son just bought his first house and wouldn’t you know it, the first night we spent there, the sewer line backed up and overflowed. On a Sunday morning, we called Whitestone Plumbing. We randomly picked them because they were close and it looked like the owner was actually the person doing the work. In fact, Harley(Ben), the owner answered our call and said he would be there in less than 2 hours. Remember, this is Sunday morning. He arrived early, did not charge extra for a weekend call and quickly found the issue using state of the art equipment. He got us up and running quickly and scheduled a day to come back and fix the problem (roots in the sewer line). That was done just like he said he would and we didn’t even have to be there. Harley was very professional, did what he said he would do, when he said he would do it and we feel his prices were very fair. We are from a small town and have grown to expect this kind of service. We never expected to find this in a large metropolitan area, but that’s exactly what we got with Whitestone Plumbing. We highly recommend this business and will not hesitate to call again for our plumbing needs.

The pricing was very reasonable, and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend Whitestone Plumbing to anyone looking for a reliable, honest, and professional plumber.

Ben from Whitestone Plumbing was really nice, very attentive and responsive. He got here and was in and out in maybe 20 minutes. It was such an easy experience, and he was just a really nice person overall. He took care of the issue right away and even mentioned he wouldn’t charge me if he wasn’t able to unclog my toilet, which I really appreciated. I would definitely recommend Whitestone Plumbing!

Ben was amazing! He showed up exactly when he said he would. Was courteous and professional and answered all my questions. He was able to clear a drain that someone else wasn't able to clear. He located the issue (my AC drains to that sink!), worked hard to clear the clog, then showed me how I could do maintenance to keep it clear. VERY fair pricing as well. Would definitely call him again!

Best plumber ever. My instance Whitestone was 1/2 of the quotes i got from 3 others. Previous home owners had installed a water softener and done the piping themselves. It was poorly done, overly complicated and looked like hammered crap. I sent Whitestone pics of the spaghetti install. Whitestone replaced and upgraded the pvc nightmare to copper. As an aside, i don't normally trust service repair persons to be there when I am not home. I had no issues with Whitestone. Would easily give them the key and let them work when I wasn't home. Also, they cleaned up their mess. I have had electricians and plumbers make a mess, leave it, and insist it's not their problem. Whitestone treated my home like their own.

Garbage Disposal Installation in Cedar Park, TX

Selecting the right motor size is the first step in a successful garbage disposal installation project. A unit with insufficient horsepower will frequently jam when processing common kitchen scraps like fruit peels. We recommend at least a 3/4 horsepower motor for families that cook at home regularly. Higher-end models often feature stainless steel grinding components that resist corrosion and stay sharp longer. Our team helps you navigate the options between standard units and ultra-quiet premium models. We ensure the mounting assembly is compatible with your specific sink material and thickness. Proper alignment prevents the unit from pulling away from the sink during heavy use. We take the time to explain the technical differences so you make an informed choice.

The electrical connection is a critical part of the installation that requires a professional touch. Many modern disposals require a dedicated circuit to prevent tripping breakers when other appliances run. We inspect your existing wiring to ensure it meets current safety codes and load requirements. Our technicians are skilled at hardwiring units or installing a proper outlet under the sink. We also ensure the power cord is secured and away from any potential water leaks. A safe electrical setup is vital for the long-term reliability of your kitchen equipment. We never cut corners when it comes to the safety of your home and family. Your peace of mind is our highest priority throughout the entire process.

Integrating the disposal with your dishwasher is another essential task during the installation phase. We remove the knockout plug from the disposal to allow the dishwasher to drain correctly. If this step is missed, your dishwasher will not empty and could potentially overflow. We use high-quality clamps and reinforced hoses to prevent any leaks at these connection points. Our team ensures the drain line has a proper high loop or air gap. This prevents dirty sink water from siphoning back into your clean dishes after a cycle. We test the entire drainage system multiple times to verify a watertight seal. Expert integration keeps both of your major kitchen appliances running at peak performance.

Proper sealing at the sink flange is what prevents water from leaking into your cabinets. We use professional-grade plumbers putty or silicone to create a permanent, watertight barrier. If the flange is not centered and tightened correctly, it will eventually drip and cause rot. Our technicians have the specialized tools to reach into tight spaces under the sink. We ensure the mounting ring is locked into place to handle the torque of the motor. A secure fit also reduces the “chatter” that can occur with poorly installed units. We treat your cabinetry with respect and ensure we leave the workspace clean. Quality craftsmanship at the sink level protects your home from hidden moisture damage.

Vibration management is a key factor in how long your disposal and sink will last. Premium units often come with anti-vibration mounts that protect the integrity of your plumbing joints. We make sure the discharge pipe is angled correctly to facilitate fast, efficient drainage. If the pipe is too flat, food particles will settle and cause a backup later. Our team checks the entire P-trap assembly to ensure it can handle the increased volume. We often replace old, brittle plastic pipes during the installation to ensure a total system upgrade. A quiet, stable disposal makes your kitchen a much more pleasant environment for entertaining. We focus on the details that make a significant difference in daily use.

Once the physical installation is complete, we perform a thorough leak test under full load. We fill the sink and release the water all at once to put pressure on the seals. This ensures that the unit can handle the highest possible volume of water without dripping. We also run the motor and check for any unusual noises or movements that indicate a problem. Our goal is to provide a “one and done” service where you never have to call us back. We take pride in the precision of our work and the durability of our installations. Ben Helton oversees our quality standards to ensure every Cedar Park homeowner is satisfied. Your satisfaction is the benchmark of our success as a local plumbing company.

Education is the final step in our professional garbage disposal installation service for our clients. We walk you through the proper operation of your new unit to maximize its lifespan. This includes the importance of using plenty of cold water during and after every use. We show you how to use the manual reset button and the hex key for clearing jams. Knowing these simple maintenance tasks can save you from unnecessary service calls in the future. We provide a list of items that should never be put down the disposal unit. Helping you care for your new investment is part of our commitment to 5-star service. We are always available to answer follow-up questions about your kitchen plumbing system.

What Makes A Top Rated Garbage Disposal Installation

A top-rated garbage disposal installation starts with a technician who understands both electrical and plumbing requirements. The plumber should help the homeowner choose a unit with enough power to handle their specific needs. High-quality materials, such as stainless steel flanges and professional sealants, are essential for a long-lasting result. Clear, upfront pricing ensures the customer feels comfortable and respected before the work begins. A 5-star service includes a thorough check for leaks and a test of the dishwasher drainage. The installer should leave the area under the sink cleaner than they found it when they arrived. Proper vibration dampening is also a mark of a professional job that values the integrity of the home. Good communication about the warranty and maintenance is necessary for a complete service experience. Finally, a local owner who stands behind the work ensures accountability and community trust.

Most Common Garbage Disposal Installation Questions

Homeowners often need guidance on choosing the right model and understanding the installation process. Here are the most common questions we receive about installing new garbage disposals in our area.

Choosing the right horsepower is the most important decision you will make during the installation process. For a single person or a couple who rarely cooks, a 1/2 horsepower motor is usually sufficient. However, for a typical family in Cedar Park, we strongly recommend a 3/4 horsepower unit. This size provides enough torque to grind through tougher food scraps without jamming or overheating the motor. Larger families or those who cook frequently with heavy fibrous vegetables should consider a 1 horsepower model. These premium units are incredibly powerful and often come with better noise insulation features as well. We help you assess your cooking habits to find the perfect balance between performance and price.

A motor that is too small for the job will struggle and eventually burn out prematurely. This leads to more frequent repairs and a shorter overall lifespan for the appliance you bought. A more powerful motor also grinds food into smaller particles, which is better for your home’s plumbing. Smaller particles are less likely to snag on the interior walls of your drain pipes and cause clogs. Higher horsepower units are also generally built with higher-quality internal components like stainless steel. These materials do not rust or corrode as easily when exposed to water and food acids. Our team can provide several options that fit your budget while meeting your performance needs. We ensure the motor size fits comfortably within the space available under your kitchen sink.

The physical size of the disposal unit often increases as the horsepower goes up for most brands. We take measurements of your under-sink area to ensure the new model will not interfere with other items. If you have a deep sink or a hot water dispenser, space can become a major constraint. We look at the configuration of your drain pipes to see if any modifications are necessary. Sometimes a larger unit requires us to lower the drain outlet in the wall for proper flow. We provide a clear explanation of any required changes before we start the installation work. Our goal is to give you a powerful disposal that fits perfectly and works flawlessly. You can trust our 20 years of experience to guide you to the right choice.

Yes, garbage disposals are commonly installed on double-bowl sinks and work very effectively in that configuration. Usually, the disposal is mounted on the smaller bowl or the side closest to the dishwasher. The discharge from the disposal then connects to a “continuous waste” pipe that joins the other sink. This allows both bowls to drain through a single P-trap while still offering disposal functionality. Our technicians ensure the plumbing is pitched correctly so that food waste does not back up. We use high-quality fittings to ensure a secure connection between the two sink bowls and the drain. This setup is a great way to maintain a dedicated basin for rinsing and one for grinding.

If you are upgrading from a single sink to a double-bowl model, the plumbing will need adjustment. We can reconfigure the lines under the sink to accommodate the new layout and the disposal. It is vital that the disposal side of the sink is handled with a professional-grade mounting kit. The extra weight of the motor can put stress on some thinner stainless steel sink models. We ensure the sink is properly supported so that it does not flex or leak over time. Our team also checks that the disposal doesn’t block access to the shut-off valves for your faucet. We prioritize functionality and ease of maintenance in every kitchen plumbing project we perform. You will love the convenience of having a disposal integrated into your double-bowl sink.

Some homeowners choose to install a disposal on both sides of a double sink, though this is rare. This requires a much more complex plumbing and electrical setup to ensure both units can run safely. Most people find that one high-powered unit on the primary prep side is more than enough for their needs. We help you decide which side makes the most sense based on your kitchen’s workflow and design. Our 5-star service includes a full testing of both sink bowls to ensure perfect drainage everywhere. We make sure the installation is tidy and leaves plenty of room for your cleaning supplies. Whitestone Plumbing is the expert in residential kitchen upgrades and appliance integrations in Cedar Park. We provide honest advice on the best layout for your specific home and plumbing system.

Using a garbage disposal with a septic system is possible, but it requires specific precautions and maintenance. Adding ground-up food to your septic tank increases the amount of solids that the bacteria must break down. This can lead to the tank filling up much faster than it would with just wastewater and toilet paper. If you have a septic system, we recommend installing a disposal specifically designed for septic use. These models often feature an enzyme-delivery system that helps break down food particles more efficiently. We also advise homeowners with septic tanks to be more selective about what they put down the unit. Minimizing the amount of grease and starch that enters the tank will protect your drain field long-term.

If you use a disposal with a septic system, you may need to have your tank pumped more often. Standard recommendations suggest pumping every three to five years, but a disposal could shorten that interval. Our team can discuss the impact of a new installation on your specific waste management system. We provide honest recommendations on which models are most compatible with the delicate balance of a septic tank. It is also important to avoid using harsh chemical cleaners that can kill the beneficial bacteria. We offer natural alternatives and advice on how to keep your system healthy while enjoying the disposal. Professional installation ensures that the unit is not leaking and contributing extra water to the tank. We take a holistic view of your home’s plumbing to ensure everything works in harmony.

Many modern disposals marketed for septic systems include features that reduce the size of the food particles. This allows the septic bacteria to work more quickly and prevents the buildup of a thick “scum” layer. We can show you these specialized models and explain how they integrate with your plumbing. Our technicians are backflow licensed and certified, meaning we understand the entire flow of waste. We want to make sure your kitchen convenience does not lead to an expensive septic failure later. Choosing the right disposal and following our maintenance tips will keep your system running smoothly. You can rely on Whitestone Plumbing for expertise that covers every aspect of residential plumbing. We are dedicated to providing the best solutions for homeowners in the Cedar Park community.

While all garbage disposals make some noise, excessive grinding or rattling is a sign of a problem. If it is a new installation, the noise could be caused by a loose mounting ring or flange. The vibration of the motor can cause these parts to buzz against the sink if they are not tight. We use specialized tools to ensure every connection is torqued to the manufacturer’s exact specifications. Another cause of noise could be a small piece of hardware or debris that fell in during construction. We thoroughly inspect and clear the grinding chamber before we hand the unit over to you. Our goal is to provide a smooth-running appliance that doesn’t disrupt your home’s environment.

Premium garbage disposal models feature extensive sound insulation wraps that significantly quiet the motor. If your new unit is much louder than expected, it might be a lower-end model without these features. We can offer upgrades to sound-shielded units if noise is a primary concern for your family. Sometimes, a “metallic” sound indicates that the grinding impellers are hitting something they shouldn’t. This can happen if the unit was dropped or damaged during shipping before it arrived at your home. We inspect every unit for factory defects before we begin the installation process in your kitchen. If a unit is defective, we handle the return and replacement so you don’t have to worry. We stand behind the quality of every product we install for our neighbors.

Occasionally, the sink itself can act as a resonator and amplify the sound of the disposal motor. Thinner stainless steel sinks are more prone to this than heavy cast iron or composite sinks. We can apply sound-deadening pads to the underside of the sink to help absorb some of the vibration. Our team knows all the tricks to make your kitchen plumbing as quiet as possible. A professional installation includes checking the surrounding pipes to ensure they aren’t vibrating against the cabinetry. We want you to be completely satisfied with the performance and the sound level of your new disposal. Our 5-star service means we pay attention to these small details that others might ignore. Trust Whitestone Plumbing for a high-quality, professional installation every single time.

For a standard replacement where the plumbing and wiring are already in place, the job takes about an hour. Our technicians arrive with all the tools and parts needed to complete the work in a single visit. If we need to modify the drain pipes or install a new electrical outlet, it may take longer. We work efficiently to minimize the time you are without your kitchen sink during the project. Our team is trained to handle the process with precision, ensuring a perfect seal and solid connections. We take the time to test the unit under full water pressure before we consider the work done. You can expect a professional and timely experience when you choose our locally owned company.

If we are installing a disposal where there wasn’t one before, the process is more involved for the plumber. This requires running new electrical lines and potentially reconfiguring the entire sink drainage system. We provide a clear timeline during our free estimate so you know exactly what to expect. Our 20 years of experience allow us to accurately predict the labor required for any kitchen project. We stay on schedule and communicate clearly if we find any unexpected issues behind your cabinet walls. We treat your time with respect and arrive at the scheduled appointment window consistently. Getting your kitchen back to normal is our primary goal during every service call we make. We value your business and work hard to earn your 5-star rating on every job.

The cleanup and testing phase is an important part of the total time we spend at your home. We don’t just “install and leave”; we ensure you are comfortable with how the disposal works. This includes demonstrating the safety features and explaining the warranty information for the specific model. We remove all the old parts and packaging so you don’t have to deal with the trash. Our technicians wipe down the interior of the cabinet to ensure everything is dry and pristine. We believe that a professional job includes leaving your home in better shape than we found it. This commitment to excellence is why we are the top-rated plumbing company in Cedar Park. You can count on us for a fast, reliable, and thorough garbage disposal installation.

We generally recommend against putting large quantities of potato peels down any garbage disposal unit. The peels contain high levels of starch which, when ground up, can turn into a thick, glue-like paste. This paste is notorious for clogging the p-trap and the branch lines of your kitchen plumbing. Small amounts of peels are usually fine if you use plenty of cold water to flush them away. However, peeling an entire bag of potatoes into the sink is a recipe for a major plumbing emergency. It is much better to put large amounts of vegetable waste into your compost bin or trash can. Our goal is to help you avoid the cost and hassle of a drain cleaning service call.

If you must put peels down the disposal, feed them in very small batches and keep the water running. Never use hot water when grinding food waste, as it can melt fats and let them coat your pipes. Cold water keeps fats solid so they can be ground up and flushed completely through the system. We have seen many clogs caused by homeowners who were told their disposal could “handle anything.” The truth is that a disposal is meant for small scraps, not as a primary waste bin for all food. Our technicians can provide you with a list of the “top offenders” that cause disposal jams and clogs. Education is a key part of our 5-star service to ensure your plumbing stays healthy. We want to help you get the longest possible life out of your new appliance.

Other items to avoid include coffee grounds, eggshells, and fibrous materials like celery or corn husks. These items don’t grind easily and can wrap around the motor shaft or create a sandy sludge in the pipes. If your disposal does get clogged, don’t use chemical drain cleaners to try and clear it out. These chemicals can damage the metal parts and rubber seals inside your new garbage disposal. Call a professional to clear the line safely and protect your investment from unnecessary damage. We offer honest advice on how to keep your kitchen running smoothly without frequent service visits. Trust Whitestone Plumbing to provide the best installation and maintenance tips for your home. We are the kitchen plumbing experts that Cedar Park families trust for quality and integrity.

While some homeowners attempt a DIY installation, hiring a professional ensures the job is done safely and correctly. Garbage disposal installation involves both high-voltage electricity and pressurized water systems working in close proximity. A mistake in the wiring can lead to a fire hazard or a dangerous electrical shock under your sink. Improper plumbing connections can result in slow leaks that rot your cabinetry and cause mold growth. Our licensed and insured plumbers have the training to handle these risks and ensure full code compliance. We also provide a warranty on our labor, which gives you long-term protection that a DIY job lacks. Investing in a professional installation saves you time, stress, and the potential cost of fixing a mistake.

Professional installers also have the experience to spot secondary issues that a homeowner might miss. We check the condition of your sink, faucet, and drain lines during every disposal service visit. If we see a sign of a future leak or a failing pipe, we can address it while we are already there. This proactive approach prevents small problems from turning into expensive emergencies later on. We also ensure the disposal is perfectly balanced and mounted to minimize noise and vibration. An improperly mounted unit can vibrate enough to loosen the faucet or damage the sink seal. Our team uses specialized tools that ensure every bolt and ring is secured to the right tension. You get a higher quality of work that reflects our 20 years of plumbing experience.

Choosing a professional like Whitestone Plumbing means you get a 5-star service experience from start to finish. We handle the heavy lifting and the messy parts of the job so you don’t have to. Our technicians arrive in a fully stocked truck with all the parts needed for a successful installation. We offer free estimates and honest, clear pricing so there are no surprises on your final bill. Ben Helton has built our reputation on providing the most reliable plumbing services in the Cedar Park area. We treat your home with the same care and attention we would give our own families. When you hire us, you are supporting a locally owned business that is dedicated to the community. Trust the experts for your next kitchen appliance upgrade.

If your disposal stops working suddenly, the most common cause is a tripped internal breaker. This happens if the motor gets too hot or if something jams the grinding plates inside the unit. You can usually fix this by pressing the small red reset button on the bottom of the motor. If the unit still doesn’t turn on, check the main electrical panel in your home for a tripped circuit. Another possibility is a jam caused by a hard object like a bone or a piece of silverware. Many units come with a hex wrench that allows you to manually turn the motor and free the jam. Always ensure the power is off before you ever put your hand or a tool near the disposal.

If the motor hums but doesn’t spin, the jam is likely still present or the motor is starting to fail. Continued humming can burn out the motor and require a full replacement of the entire unit. If you hear no sound at all after checking the reset button and the breaker, the motor is likely dead. Over time, water can leak through the internal seals and short out the electrical components of the disposal. If you see water dripping from the very bottom of the motor housing, the unit must be replaced. We offer professional diagnosis and installation to get your sink back in working order quickly. Our team provides honest answers on whether a repair is possible or if a new unit is needed.

A disposal that is more than 10 years old is nearing the end of its reliable service life. We recommend replacement rather than repair for older units to provide a better value for your money. Modern disposals are more efficient, quieter, and have better grinding technology than models from a decade ago. We can help you choose a replacement that fits your existing plumbing and electrical setup perfectly. Our 5-star service ensures that the new unit is installed correctly and tested for long-term performance. We take the stress out of appliance failure by providing fast, reliable service to our neighbors. Trust Whitestone Plumbing for all your garbage disposal and kitchen plumbing needs in Cedar Park. We are here to keep your home running smoothly with expert care and integrity.
